History of Creation

The car company was named after a town in Michigan and it was established by Edward M. Murphy in 1893. At the time when it was established, the company was only making horse-drawn carriages. In 1907, the founder diverted from horse carriages to Oakland Motor Car Company.

A few years later, the founder died and the company was bought by General Motors in 1909. In 1926, the first car of the company was manufactured and it was a five-passenger coach car. It has a six-cylinder engine that was so powerful that will outrun 4-cylinder cars of other brands and still be affordable.

The first edition of the brand made a breakthrough and spurred the introduction of the next six-cylinder car, the Pontiac Big six in 1929. It had that because of the development made to it as it had an increased displacement and horsepower.

Moving forward, 1957 was the year the company had its first defining car model, Bonneville. This car, with its look, narrated the whole era of American cars. This made it widely known as it was seen as a flashy car like that of the Chevrolet but durable and affordable like that of a Buick,

The first American car muscle was also made by this brand in 1964 and it was tagged the GTO (Grand Turismo Omologato). From then, the 60s was all about moving as fast as you can with the biggest engine possible. Even with the fact that other makers wanted to make a similar product like the GTO, the car remained the best and original muscle car.

The 70s wasn’t a good year for this brand as America was hit with an oil crisis. The muscle cars are built with a long range of gas-guzzling motors that weren’t environmentally friendly. And with all the regulations that came with the oil crisis, GM had to downsize the muscle cars just for them to stay in the market.

In the 80s, the Fiero was introduced and in the 90s we had the firebird. The effect of the oil crisis made the company experience some setbacks. And to come out of the crisis, the GTO was resurrected but it was not widely received as the first edition. This was because it lacked originality which was turned many fans away from the new model.
